Masure Gallery is thrilled to present Modern Exposure, our debut solo photography exhibition featuring photographer Walt Burns. Walt Burns is a Fort Worth photographer that specializes in Architectural Minimalism photography. Burns' unique composition depicts ubiquitous cityscapes of Fort Worth, elevating ordinary scenery into novel abstractions. Burns’ eye hones in on titillating compositions of historic architecture removing them from the mundane and positioning them within a contemporary framework. Burns’ fresh take on Cowtown turns the conversation into ideas around expansion, color and carefully considered details.
Two hour critique moderated by Masure Gallery Director Simone Fischer on Wednesday, September 9th, 2026. Photographers of all levels and genres welcome!

Join us for a Photo Critique Class moderated by Masure Gallery Director & Chief Curator Simone Fischer. Simone earned a Master’s Degree of Fine Art with an emphasis in Photography from Pacific Northwest College of Art at Willamette University (2020). She taught graduate and undergraduate level (MFA & BFA) student critique seminars as the Graduate Thesis Exhibition Coordinator & served as the college's fine art documentation photographer. She has been mentored by leading contemporary photographers such as Robert Lyons, Chair of the Photography Program at the University of Hartford, & Teresa Christensen, Chair of Photography at PNCA and former documentation photographer at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York City. Critique is vital for artists in order to improve and entertain ideas and thoughts they might not have considered on their own. Submit one photograph to be critiqued by Simone & other local photographers.
The Masure Gallery of Photography is pleased to announce the appointment of James Russell as its first writer-in-residence, an ambitious new programmatic initiative aimed at supporting arts and culture journalism and criticism and further advancing the study of photography in a gallery setting.
The Fort Worth-based journalist has written for The Architect’s Newspaper, Arts and Culture Texas, D Magazine, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Fort Worth Weekly,Landscape Architecture Magazine, and Texas Architect, among others. He edited the catalogues for recent exhibition Red, a group exhibition, and Modern Exposure, the first solo exhibition of local photographer Walt Burns, organized by gallery director and chief curator Simone Fischer.
Fischer views the relationship between visual arts and culture writers as a vital pillar of the arts ecosystem. In her tenure as a director, she has worked to not only support photographers through gallery representation as well as critiques, talks and class. With the addition to the residency, she now oversees a one-of-a-kind experience to support writers as they add coverage of photographic arts in Texas.
“Here’s some irony. Simone and I joked not too long ago that photography is beyond me. As someone who primarily thinks about the built environment and sculpture, getting a chance to study the medium is exciting. With access to Simone and budding and professional photographers and Masure’s resources, I can learn about the discipline and master its language,” James Russell said. “I’m incredibly grateful to Simone and gallery owners CJ and Jeff Masure for the opportunity to study the discipline and situate the gallery as a cultural center.”
